I'm hoping to go to Quartzsite this coming January. It will be my first time and I'm going to have about three days. I'd like some tips on planning the trip, especially when to go. It looks like I'll need to choose between hitting the Tyson Wells show or the Powwow since those are on different weekends. How are those two shows different and which would you recommend? Are the vendors significantly different or do the Tyson Wells vendors just pick up after the show and move over to the Powwow? I'm mainly interested in picking up rough rock. Any advice will be appreciated.

Tyson Wells is mostly large commercial vendors with lots of Chinese stuff and similar items from around the world, there are smaller vendors in there but the main focus is on the large vendors. You can sell anything at Tyson Wells, so if you need a hat or belt or hammer or a new wind sock, or a business sign or a cinnamon roll you can find it there.
The Pow-Wow is mostly rock shops and rock related vendors and lasts for 3-5 days, depending on the year.
Don't forget to hit Desert Gardens which is just down the road from Tyson Wells, it is all rock vendors and you have to sell 90% rock related material to get a spot there. This is the show where you will find the best deals.
Have fun and stop in and see us at Desert Gardens when you go, we are in 22B and Ralph and Maryann are in 22A, right next to the Diamond Pacific building.

Pow Wow weekend is best for sure. We used to see the Pow Wow in one day and Desert Gardens in two but it is much larger now. It is the very best all rock show. Pow Wow is a nice show also. Tyson is pretty much a swap meet as is Main Event. There are other smaller shows as well. Most of the Tyson vendors stay through the whole month of January and they have three shows (rock, Craft, and something else) so pretty much open during Pow Wow as well. Come see us at G19,20 at Desert Gardens.

I realy liked the POW WOW. and Desert Gardens Felt like I got some good deals at both places. Here is their link to POW WOW info . www.qiaaz.org/ there is a large parking lot on the east end off Palo Verde Ave. They have a suttle that runs from there to POW WOW and back. Desert Gardens has lots of parking Mike

Be sure to come out and see us at Tyson Wells, we'll be there for all three of their shows! We'll have tons of assorted rough, mined with our own hands (and tired backs!) You can preview our materials at our website and see where we'll be on the showgrounds map at our homepage. Being novice miners, we're looking forward to making connections with cutters, rock shop owners, show dealers and jewel artists of every kind. So, come by and introduce yourselves, friends! Best regards, Kris & Al Hand-2-Mouth Mining www.hand2mouthmining.net

So is there a place to see a calendar of events for this year? We plan to be heading south early Jan12 and need to be back by the 23rd. We will be stopping to visit family either on the way down or on the return trip, if we have an idea of what might be happening it will help us to plan the trip.

Yeah, I liked Desert Gardens and the Pow Wow best too. Too much swap meet junk, gimcracks and gee gaws at the other shows. Last time I went, the parking situation and traffic were way better at Desert Gardens too.....Mel

We will be arriving in Blythe Sat evening the 14th so we will be there for the last day of Tyson-Wells. We're there all week so we will be around for most of the pow wow too. looking forward to seeing you all.
Maybe a tailgate or something on Tuesday the 17th?
