Hi, members and guests! I'm proud to announce the final itinerary for the Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics! 2nd Annual New Years Eve Field Trip, with full details to be found at the "Events" listings at rockhound-field-trips.ning.com/events/panoche-hills-field-trip:Meeting at 9am on Saturday December 31st at the Chevron at the Nee's Ave & I-5 off ramp west of Firebaugh, CA, we'll surface collect from the Big Pile, then after lunch proceed to the chiastolite (andalusite) diggings along Rd. 29, east of Chowchilla in the Madera County foothills. If you're looking for a different and productive way to spend the New Years weekend, or just a few hours of ultra productive collecting on New Years Eve, this is the trip for you. It's an hour from Fresno, and if you're coming from metropolitan Northern or Southern California destinations, you can get a full days collecting and make it home in time for the party! If you want to camp or are stopping in on your way to Quartzsite, there are great campgrounds nearby (see the event page) and both locations are within a half hour of motels and amenities. We hope that you can make it out for this great trip to two great and productive Central California destinations. See you there! Ooh, Very cool. Used to hunt chiastolite crystals up by our old ranch in Mariposa county. Japanese used to take tour buses out to hunt them too as they consider cross rocks lucky. Sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun....Mel
