Just picked up a nice Westinghouse 1/2 HP 3400(?) RPM motor that is begging to be used in a high speed sander application (I swear, it is speaking to me!)
Anyhow, there is a local guy who builds them based on another manufacturers design and I was hoping someone would have plans that would give measurements for the enclosure and stand.
Any help will be appreciated as always. A source for the 7" flexible pads and abrasive would also be welcome.
Thanks!
Erik

John Richardson has made them for years. Try Googling Richardson's high speed sander. It is a pretty simple design.

Barranca sells Velcro backed sanding discs in SC or diamond in 7". I think Richardson is set up to use standard sanding discs that glue on.

I think I have a Richardsons sander that is missing the motor if you are interested I can go dig it out of the shed.

Tony, I'm interested in that sander if Erik doesn't want it.
Thanks, Chuck

Tony, appreciate the offer but I think I can mock one up pretty easily. Actually now that I have googled the sander in question I see that it is a pretty simple affair. Feel free to find it a new home though Picked up that Westinghouse motor for $25 bucks so I think I will aim for a DIY cheapie setup. The velcro discs sound like a better idea to me than glue on but maybe I am missing something. Perhaps the velcro backing would be too "springy" and not give as flat a finish? Dunno...will have to ask around a bit. Thanks!

All the counter tops I've seen are flat.

Make sure you hook it up to a good dust remover. Woody

These will go right on the end of a motor. And has the 1/2" disc hub and the 1/4 20 flex disc adapter.
These and the flex disc can be ordered from Graves.
The shaft definition is what you have coming out of the motor.
SHAFT ADAPTORS. These adaptors will convert your grinder shaft to accept the popular "no-hole" discs with the 1/4-20 threaded stud. These would include the Quick Disc, Flex-O-Discs, and "no-hole" laps.
Size Item No. Price 1/2" Straight shaft 19-295 30.50 1/2-20 right hand thread 19-296 30.50 5/8-18 right hand thread 19-297 30.50 3/4-16 right hand thread 19-298 30.50 5/8" straight shaft 19-299 30.50 3/4" straight shaft 19-294 30.50 1"-14 right hand thread 19-293 30.50
