What do you all do with your finished rocks stones and gems?

I wrap the medium and larger one and the smaller ones I plan on drilling holes in to make other jewelry. I just wish I was able to identify all of my stones so I could tell the people what they were.

Lately I have been hiding them. The shop is going strong and it seems all we do is make. I have tried the Eric Cartman sales approach and it had the opposite effect. The more I told people to go away and leave me alone the more I have to make. Instead of doing the easy stuff, they have been bringing vintage jewelery to repair, modify, and whatever. My faceted dinosaur doo do is going too strong and I am going to have to get more laps. I reached the point where I cannot see designs anymore. I now understand why lapidariasts sell their stuff for a song. They had enough. Anybody want to buy a business that is worse than having a newborn child? It is still an infant and it worries me that it will begin growing.

i only have 2 completed batches so this is real easy. i have them in 3 bowls in the den. i have another batch in polish right now then there will be a lag while i wait on the others. i am loving this wrapping but it would take a whole lot of wrapping for the rocks i've got going and waiting. my favorite bowl of rocks (the one i suffered a dog dookie for) now has a small chip in it where my daughter threw a "my little pony" into it and she has chipped a few rocks in the bowl as she just cannot keep her hands off them and takes them out, puts them in...we had to have a little talk about treating them gently and we are giving her money a little at a time to buy a new bowl so she'll think she had to replace it.

i've seen several people say that they give them away. That's my plan too. Keep the ones that are really precious to me, and then give away the others just to see the smiles.
If you love something, set it free. Or risk having rocks caught in your vacuum.

Tell the mrs for me, happy birthday. Indeed. My third ex-wife and I met on this day, the same day when OJ got arrested and did his motorvehicle parade. You are absolutely correct about the grass being greener. What we do is like having a child. My wife and I are going out for the night, in parable. We have both been accepted at GIA in Los Angeles. She is going for diamond grading and pearl grading. I am going for master gold fabricator. Both four year programs. I do not think I will ever give this up. I do go through dry spells however. I have a comission to make a pendant of a gentleman's deceased wife's glass eye. Like all the projects I do, he talks about how she was always keeping her eye on him. The look in his eye however, they were married 54yrs., I will try to make something for him he will treasure. That is what we do, we make beauty. This is a labour of love.

dear doc and mrs. doc, congratulations and good luck with the GIA acceptance! My parents always told me (and it's true) that an education (no matter what form it takes) is the lightest load you'll ever have to carry. And, if it's any comfort at all, no matter how much your business is like a child that is growing, at least you'll never have to worry about it running out into traffic. Again, congratulations.

Hey Doc, You'll be in LA? Thats only a few hundred miles away from my house. If you ever want to go on any rockhounding expeditions, let me know. You're actually going to live right next door to some of the best rockhounding locations in America! There is also a "pow-wow" coming up the second weekend of may in Valley Springs. And the Indian Wells Jem and Mineral Society is holding their 49th annual Rainbow Ridge jasper trip in November. If you're ever interest (and not swamped in school) hit me up!

James I would love to take you up on a meeting and perhaps some exploration. My wife's mother lives in Burbank, two blocks from the school. She is giving us an house in exchange for staying there and we look forward to really leaping forward in what we do. If you look in the pictures section to the pictures Wiz posted for me, guess who the actor is. That ring on his right index finger really presented my weaknesses in what I want to do. I am also designing a new ring for the sequel. We plan on going to school there, and doing shows and pow-wows, myself being of native american descent I just might find I fit somewhere. It will be good to meet you.

Doc, sounds great! Who is the actor by the way? I've seen him but I havn't seen the movie. It's amazing that you're making jewlery for movie stars! If you ever need a blacksmith, let me know. My brother specializes in weaponry and chain mail.
When are you coming to California by the way?

I hope to be headed to LA., at the end of April. Our house is scheduled to sell and close then. During that time, I have to rebuild our van engine, fix a well filter, and continue to make jewelery. We are running our shop right up to the end. We have to find a way to bring our Bengal cats, our children, and get them settled in. The name of the actor, I cannot say by contract. He is this years most popular actor however. When he comes to the shop it becomes a real issue. People fall all over him and do other strange things. He is really a pretty cool person and often comes in a variety of disguises. It is funny if it did not cause so much havoc. I studied Japanese metalworking under Matsuyama. I am a swordsmith. That is how I got into jewelery. Nobody wants real Katanas anymore. Just knock offs so they can pretend to be the Beverly Samuri. Mokume'Gane is metal worked like the steel. It was used as sword furniture. I make rings out of it. I have made jewelery for Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Pat Bennetar, Lita Ford, Rene' Russo, and Paul Smith, the drunk on the Dukes of Hazzard. Frankly, I do not believe my jewelery is worth the attention and each day I go to the shop I think I am a fraud and wonder when I will be found out. Some stranger walks up and does gymnastics over some design I made and I feel better. The next day I think I am a fraud and it starts all over again. That is why I am going to school again. I am not satisfied with what I can do.

Well, I'll tell you what. If you're never satisfied, that's a good thing. It's keeps you progressing and out-doing yourself. Nice resume by the way. More than I can say for myself. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

compressed air is your friend. I have several motors and the one that pulls the most amps (and therefor makes the most power) gets the hottest I made a cooling duct for it and that really helps, I didn't pay to much for it but it did get hot enough the other day to shut itself off for awhile. then I made the duct and now no problem

There are a few of us who use real Katanas ;D , I use Shinto Era Nihonto , I wish I could afford both Modern and Koto..the folks who use the real thing are like us who "roll rocks" a niche crowd.
