Is that expando drums in the center? If so, how do you change the belts? And what is that on the right side? Curt

Those are bump wheels in the center, it is a strip of sand paper held on at the groove, it causes a small bump everytime the wheel goes around hence the name.
Can't really tell from the pic but it looks like maybe a polish pad on the right.
The 4 bolts on top hold the 2 sections together, you remove those bolts and the top half lifts off, then you can just lift the whole arbor out, they had a slick design to them.

Later units (Barranca) had a hinged top to access shaft.

Cool. So I could put 2 diamond wheels in the center and an expando on the left?

I see room for 3 diamond wheels. 1 on the left, 2 in the middle, and an expando on the right end with a polishing disc on the right end. The polishing discs are a little under 6", so you should be able to change belts without removing the disc.

If you sell that to me real cheap you will not have to figure all that out.

You can set it up anyway you want.
Looks like a good unit. Tony

Mine has three wheels centre, one on the left end, and a polish disc on the right. They originally came with two hard wheel centre, polish disc on the right, and a bump wheel on the left. With no care they will last only about fifty years, and with care maybe one hundred. Woody

If it is the 8" unit, the most recent version had two diamond wheels in the center, an expando on each end and spin on polish pads each end. The only bearings I have sold for them were destroyed by people trying to remove them to change wheels without a clue.

This is a model GP8, does that mean 8" wheels? Haven't talked to the guy yet.
Knowing I would have to buy all new wheels, is this unit and a model TS 10 PF Star Diamond 10 inch saw mounted on a table worth $250 and a 600 mile round trip? Seems the saw alone should be worth that much.

Worth the trip X2! It is an 8" unit, so the wheels are not gonna be cheap- but they may be refurbishable. An expando opens up all kinds of possibilities (nice cheap SiC belts, or nice expensive Diamond- or some of both). As for the saw- well you answered your own question- Hell if you don't want it- I'll pay you to go get it for me and ship it up here!

The saw if in good shape is worth $400. The GP8 with diamond wheels ran about $3000 when Barranca made them.

3K got me on the phone. ;D
The guy is going out of town and won't be back until after Christmas. So I'll probably go see it next week.
Thanks a bunch for all your help!
