I am trying to work with some 18 gauge copper but having a dickens of a time getting it straight/flat so that the two pieces lie smoothly side by side.
Does anyone have any tricks for removing the 'gentle' twist that come when straightening from a coil....
Thanks! :-)

Lisa, yes! I've been straightning copper wire and stripping it for 30+ years. How long are your pieces? Secure the end to something stationary so it won't slip. Then grab the loose end with pliers and pull tight and the kinks and soft bends will come right out! If you pull to hard it will change the gauge of you wire because it will streach. Try it and you will feel the wire straighten.

this is for square wire I will clamp one end in a vise and give it a pull to get it fairly straight. Then I use 2 pair of flat pliers the work my way along the length of wire to get the twist out of it. Its easy enough to do but tedious if you have lots to get straight
round wire is easy, lay your lengths on a flat surface and get a thin flat board to put on top and roll the wire back and forth between them

Thanks for both replies!!! I think that will be just what I wanted to know... though I probably can't get to it tonight as the vice is in the garage (my husbands as I don't have one.... yet... ) Cheers and thanks again for the rapid response.
