anyway i noticed a lot of people in the USA go rock hounding and its done a lot like Metal detecting anyway

here in the UK i say to someone have you heard of lapidary crafting and 9 out of 10 people look at me like ive just escaped from an asylm

but since hardly anyone goes rock picking and finding over here does that mean its gonna be a lot more easier to find certian types of minrals and also i was thinking mines, quarys are my best bet

what could you guys tell me on where to look please or what kind of signs to look out for

Hey Shadowhound.
I just finished reading your post and have to say that I don't see the comparison between metal detecting and rockhounding!
As far as I'm aware there is no machine that will help you find what you are looking for in the rock world;-for me it's a case of lots of reading-depends on what I am actually looking for,ie,last year I wanted to find some agate.Googled like a madman and eventually came up with this site,asked a few questions and was pointed in the right direction by one or two of the very generous and helpful members on here,booked my ticket to Scotland(best place in the uk for agates)set off with my maps and 6 days later returned with about 30 kilos of very nice agates,the only tools involved were hammers picks and chisels.
So it all comes down to what you are looking for and the use you want to put it to,you are in the right place,so ask away and good luck.John.
