Yup. Two different kinds of agate. Fairburn is of course, just a place name. Prairie Agate is a sort of banded chert where the bands a fuzzy and kind of indistinct. Common and less expensive material though I like it a lot. Good quality Prairie Agate is really nice to work. The true Fairburn Agate is a fortification agate with well defined bands and patterns. Quite scarce and quite expensive for good ones....mel

I got a 20 pound box of those from the same guy. They are solid, very hard and take an awesome shine!! For the money, it's hard to get a better deal.

Kevin, looks like you have prairie agates which are nice but don't have good banding like the Fairburns or Lakers. This guys is misleading people by including the name "fairburn" in the title but he does say below it that they are "Fairburn area" prairie agates.

Boy, I'm with you Randy. I recently got some slabs of Prairie Agate at the Bakersfield gem show. Absolutely beautiful material. It's hard, gemmy and in a wonderful variety of colors and patterns. One of the nicer cutting materials I've encountered for such reasonable prices...mel

thanks everybody...i kind of wanted the prarie agates...deb193-daniel sent me a peice he called prarie agate...and i just liked the way it cut...and the color was simple but yet cool...thats why i ordered some....hoping they were kind the same as he sent....and maybe out of a bunch there would be a few different colors.
yep cher you are correct...i would have never noticed the difference between them...i was just browsing and noticed the price difference between weights...it is kinda spamming people to think 1 thing...could be confusing to new folk im sure...was a little to me...glad i had a place to ask.
but at least i was looking for the prarie agates and not the other type...thanks sabre for the clarification break down on the differences....bikerrandy glad you said they were ok...i had seen his feedback...and hoped they would be ok.

You'll enjoy cutting into them Kev, they have some nice patterns and colors in them.

I got 10 lbs for about $13 from glitter-master, and while not great stuff, I felt it was certainly worth what I paid, and I always figure in shipping to figure if it was worth it or not. I have some in tumbling now. Terry
