Hi there,
Well... for the past three HOURS have been reading this board. Terrific! I wish I had known about you all sooner.
Let's see... by way of introduction, Maggie's the name. Been collecting, polishing, breaking, cabbing and generally dreaming of rocks my whole life! Also an avid wirewrapper although lately I have become more interested in facetting stones and have recently started to delve into more complex settings.
Currently polishing a batch of Emeralds and Rubies. After 3 weeks in the coarse grit, (changing every Three to Five days because the hardness breaks down the grit very fast, this seems to be the key with these particular gemstones) finally changed to medium today. This is my 3rd time with this combination and the previous batches came out very well and also netted me a fine profit. If I had KNOWN about the board I would have sent in pictures of before and after on each step but I'll be sure to send in some at the end of this medium grit stage and at least you can follow me through to the end.
I saw that you recommend sellers on this board and I'll be happy to post who my favorites are for these gemstones rough if you'd like to know.
Again, I am SO happy to have found you all!
Maggie

Actually I am going to post my favorite "outlet" for these gems. His "UNSEARCHED STOCKPILE EMERALDS RUBIES AMETHYST" are the best thing going. I've bought from a lot of other vendor's on E-Bay too, but this guy is my favorite. His store URL is: stores.ebay.com/OntheAuctionAnyway, hope this is of some use to someone out there. Also, I saw a post further down about getting rid of matrix on these gems. Use a dremel. If you try to grind it down it will take simply forever!

Another "wrapper" way cool. I also facet, and got into tumbling to speed up faceting. Mostly I tumble to break the matrix so I can see into the stone to align the ISO. I also cab., and in docones pics you will see a meteorite I cut and cabbed mounted on Mokume'Gane set on sterling. I have four pieces of Moldavite ready to facet, carat weights 21 and higher. I have been combining soldered mountings with wire wrapping. I am also very burned out. Welcome to the place where stoners express their joy at the discoveries before their eys.

Greetings Maggie and welcome to the forum... I'm also a bit new, but this place is wonderful for us up and coming "rockular creators"... Hope the rubies and emeralds come out well...

Welcome Maggie! I've been a little pre-occupied today with this business of posting pictures. I thought that I had a simple and free way for everyone to post pictures. I still think that it will work, just won't be quite as "simple" as I'd hoped. If you have your own web space it won't be an issue. Sounds like you have some experience we will love hearing about. Look forward to reading some of your posts!

Welcome Maggie! Can't wait to see your pics. Alot of us are struggling with those silly corundums. And I know I speak for many of us when I say we would love to see your results.

hiya msmaggie...welcome to the board. this is, without exception, the best board I've ever come across. Not only is the information helpful and correct, but it is always given in a spirit of goodwill. I can't get over how supportive everyone is here...how accepting....it must be the rocks. That can be the only explanation. Maybe it helps that we have grit in containers and not in our souls.
