I am going to attempt to fabricate a leather belt for an 8" x 3" expandable drum. I intend to adhere the leather to a used silicon carbide belt. Does anyone have any ideas regarding what type of adhesive would hold up?

A good grade of rubber cement would work for bonding leather. It dries waterproof, and remains flexible.

Mike: I make leather polishing belts commercially. The best glue to use is Barge Cement. Get the yellow, and red tube., non waterbase, if you can. This is a contact cement, so you coat both surfaces, let it dry, then bond them together. Then lightly hammer the belt to increase the bond strength. When you buy your leather, make sure it has been skived. This makes the thickness even. Also, since you will be using an old abrasive belt, make sure you coat the belt edges with glue to keep any old grit from causing a problem. Woody
