Hello everyone, I am making the time to come in and introduce myself, after being on this board for a short while, asking a million questions, and posting pics of the good the bad and the 'good trys" My name is Mary - wife and mom and now L A P I D A R Y !!!! I took a one day class in July of 2011, bought the swap top on my way out...and have been making a mess of the room and my clothes ever since. I proved to myself that a person can fall in love twice in their life time. I is HOOKED, and I want to say rather loudly that the members on this board are not only amazingly talented (enviously so) but also so very helpful and full of great knowledge. I am happy to be a member here, and there are sooo many hundreds of pages to read thru.

Welcome Mary:
No need to read through all of those pages. If you have questions, just ask. We'll try to steer you to the correct threads, or answer your questions directly. Don

Welcome tfbc, it does have a great group of people hear. How do you like the swap top? I have had mine just over a year and it works fine. I have another machine with a trim saw I use and any thing very big I got to the Tulsa rock shop for that. It is fun.

I came to the world of lapidary in a strange way, I was at The Bead Oasis show (an event that happens 2x a year in Toronto) and while at a booth I saw the swap top....
It hit me like a 2x4 I came home, my husband asked so how was the show this year, what'd ya buy? Well I went into this pitiful story about seeing the Swap Top, and the man selling them was offering a one day hands on class in lapidary....AND should you buy the machine at the end of the class, he will take 100 bucks off. Blah blah blah...I was lost, dreaming really....I just could not get this flavour out of my mouth LOL
Long and short, my man said go take the class. I did and six months later, here I am !
I've read some nasty reviews on the ST but I'm still glad I was ignorant to its shortcomings at the time, or else I could not have afforded to buy a Genie etc...I just don't have that kinda cash.
I've not had a problem with it (yet) I'm still enchanted with it.
I also bought the Band Saw...that's kinda fun too
One day I will have the real thing though, like the other big boys and girls here. LOL but before that happens, I have alot to learn about minerals and rocks and what makes them what they are, and what their names are.....where they come from...I'm still only on step one really
Hi my name is Mary and I'm a rock addict.

Welcome Mary. There is no known cure for your addiction. Well, maybe one, when your husband can no longer park his car because of the piles of rocks, and the tables and benches full of equipment.

Welcome to the forum, Mary. Sounds like you're an incurable now as well. Maybe I should say, welcome to the insane assylum - great people, great hobby, terrific past-time!
