Received an 18 pound rock (Canadian jade/nephrite) today from sampson and I am thrilled to say the least. I have to take it outside and cut a flat spot so my clamp will grab it and then I will be slabbing away. I hope to get some awesome rings out of this stone. Now if the weather will cooperate (10 degrees) with a high of 26 I will get outside. Thank you Mike. I will get your slabs sent back as soon as I can. Jim He also threw in some amathist crystals and some green stone that has a SG of chalcedony. It should make some awesome cabs. The other two pieces are totally unknown to me but look like some awesome cab material also.

Hey Jim, glad it got there so quick. I sent you a pm about this stuff.
I still hesitate calling this stuff jade even though it has many jade like qualities, instead i call it jade like or jade-ish. Either way, it works up quite nice and has some nice color, hope it works for you.
The other stuff comes from the cliffs out back of my house and i suspect it is like you mention some type of chalcedony or chert. There are a huge variety of colors of this stuff and some of it is pure and plain while some of it id full of veins and inclusions. The amethyst comes from a bit farther down the valley, about 20 miles away. No rush on the slabs, i've got a ton of other projects on the go right now.
Can't wait to see how it works out for your rings.

I see that's going to keep you occupied for a while! Great pieces! Paul
