Hello all. Have a question for ya. I have some Aluminum Oxide 1000 grit I got from a friend. What is it for and can I use it on my tumbles? I don't want to mess anything up. Some expert advice please.

I use it as a pre-polish in my rotarys. Works real well.

1000 grit is traditionally used between intermediate (500-600 grit) and polish when tumbling softer stones -or- when tumbling something that you *really* want to come out perfect. I don't use it in rotaries on Mohs 7 rocks, but do use it in my vibe on Mohs 7 rocks. I think it is close to essential if tumbling Mohs 6 or less hardness rocks.
Hope this helps.

I use 1000 ao on all my tumbles. After I run coarse,60/90 in my rotaries,I use 1000 and ao polish in the lot-o's.

Got some of it running now as a pre-polish step... (e.g. what the others said ).
