Well, you saw the drum frames I made a while back, so here are drums. My, her brother, and I got together, and took a class at a nearby reservation on drum making Saturday, then today, we made more drums at home. During the class, a Skokomish weaver show us how to weave the handles which looks a lot better than just plain wrapping them. Five of the drums are elk skin, one of which was neck material which is thick, so that drum has a very deep voice. The sixth drum is deer hide, which is much thinner than elf, so it has a much higher pitched voice. Woody Punching the lacing holes Lacing the skin edge Getting the skin on Lacing the drum Weaving the handle Finished handle Finished drums..one is was being played when I shot this

Very nice!! I saw a demo on this and I thought it was interesting that once you start you have to keep going till they're done . Don't let them drum you out of doing rocks...LOL

Very nice work. I really like your handles. I have three drums like this, one elk, one moose, and one deer. Moose is 18" and the other two are 16". All my handles are round circles about 2-3" diameter but your technique looks easier to hold when twising and pounding hard.

I hope you are immensely proud of yourself. That is quite the display of talent, right there! Making things by hand is such a reward, especially in a world where you can buy pretty much anything already made if you have the money. I am glad to see it is not a lost skill!
