Howdy folks, Too a break from the horses and my deck staining today and went on a little rock hunt to the Eagle Pass rock pile. Pretty good day today. Found about 5# of petrified wood and maybe twenty of nice Rio Grandes. Also found some good jasper, wonderstone, flint that looks almost like Willow creek, and orbicular rhyolite. Pretty much had a five gallon bucket full in two hours. freaking camera is giving me fits ( battery must be low) so I only photographed a few of my finds. here are a few pics The pile of Rio Grande agate. Mostly reds and golds but my close up pic of the reds was not recorded for some reason. Rio Grande mosses: Bottom one has nice red sagenite: left one is orbicular rhyolite, right is yellow plume: Don't know what this stuff is, I guess either flint or a more milky agate but these have cut fantastic slabs when I've sliced them before. The pet wood. Been finding very little of this lately.

Nice haul Mel! How do you know it's rhyolite? Looks like agate just looking at the pic.

Curt, The break in the rhyolite is not as conchoidal as you'd see with the poppy jasper or orbicular agate that are also found in these gravels. Not as glassy either. Though, admittedly, sometimes thew rhyolite is so full of silica that it's no different than jasper...Mel

Nice. Looks like you need to take a break from the chores more often.
