Hi guys! So I did this cab quite awhile ago but never posted it for a couple of reasons. First, this one is a BUGGER to photo! 2nd.... the little white spots are not dust, they are those chalky inclusions that many times show up in this material and there is nothing I can do about them without filling them with epoxy, which I've never tried with volcanic glass. It is such a beautiful piece though that I'm posting it anyway!!! I got this small slab from Don (jakesrocks). It is old stock material that was collected before the end of the cold war. Don thinks it originated in CA. It is amazing material and now is being touted as "new" material and being sold by Germany www.midnight-lace-obsidian.com/index.html I was told that this material originates from Russia/Soviet Union. Here's my feeble attempt at capturing this beautiful stone in photos! ![](http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/kgniot0709/P1040253.jpg) ![](http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/kgniot0709/P1040254.jpg) Back-Lit: ![](http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/kgniot0709/P1040234.jpg) ![](http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/kgniot0709/P1040235.jpg) Thanks for looking and it's a bit frustrating that this material is being pulled off as brand spanking new..... nope, good ol' US already has it!

Cool! I can't manage to get a decent shine on some of this I have, trying the vibe now and hoping for better results. Very pretty material and nice cabbing.

Krystee:
Midnight Lace comes from Glass Buttes, Oregon. There is also some found at Davis Creek, California. The deposit at Glass Buttes, runs from laceless, to lace in clear, to lace, and mahogany in one piece which is then called Triple flow. Last year, I found a few pieces of Triple Flow shot with silver needles.
Not at all rare BTW.
What is rare, however is the polish you achieve on obsidian.

Beautiful cab, what a pattern in back-light! And the shine is , of course, your trade mark.

I think it is beautiful and the little ash marks add to the beauty. You did a great job and I am glad you are sharing it! Fran

The Queen of Obsidian strikes again! I honesty have no idea how you can perform such a shine on your stones. You do a awesome job! I have tried to cab Obsidian before...and mine never turns out that nice. steve
