A quick project with a naturally distressed wooden frame. Photo is Milky Eagle-Owl fledgling (the former Verreaux's or Giant Eagle-Owl) perched near his nest in the Kalahari desert, near Twee Rivieren gate of Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park. This is near the Botswana border crossing but we and the owl were on the South African side. The rising morning sun gives the "milky" youngster that peach glow. I decided not to use the black/sepia antique paint over the grout or wood, because I like the lighter colors with this print. What do you guys think? I used a mix bag of cabs, tumbles, and slabettes of jasp-agate and petrified wood, a bit of bloodstone here and there, and a pink western stone that might be a too-porous rhodonite or thulite. I was looking for the effect that these would be stones someone might pick up along an old desert creek bed, as opposed to a jeweled, perfectly polished effect. What do you think? A special thanks to Snuffy, who provided some of the slabettes in various swaps.

FANTASTIC! It looks like you could just crawl through the frame and be there. Nicely Done steve

It looks good! Very inspired choice of the reddish plaster in between the stones. Beautifully done. It looks so natural, that you expect that owl to step from the branch to the inner edge of the frame.

A beautifull designed picture frame
But the wood frame and the owl / tree boughs colour blend so well it realy sets it off for me a truly awsome combination.
And has a 3D effect as tandal above says , truly beautifull

Wow--what a great idea, beautifully executed. Your rock choice is perfect with the picture and the arrangment of them is superb.
