Just saw that myself...so sad to see such talent be overwhelmed by personal issues. Scott

That's sad news, as I met my wife, our favorite songs where performed by her.

Man, drugs do destroy lives. She had such a great voice, astoundingly powerful and then drug use and the attendant problems spoiled it all. So sad....Mel

Unfortunately, drugs are often a byproduct of stardom, as it looks like.
Its not so much that you get hooked by the drugs, its the need for feeling great. This kind of performers usually get massive boosts in energy from their audience, but........ once off stage they replace that with the illusion that drugs bring.
To be a great performer is one thing; staying away from drugs, takes a much stronger personality!
Whitney and Dolly P. are my personal favorite female vocalist performers, and look as to how different they live their lives. Whitney could have had lasting success, just like Dolly, if she could have managed her drugs problem. Personal/family problems is something that both have/had in common; how they dealt with them was very different and the eventual outcome has manifested itself now with finality.

Ah man! This really saddens me. For the longest time she was my favorite singer. I still enjoy her music tremendously. I used to say to my wife that she should bottle her voice and sell it. Too bad she married Bobby Brown then went downhill from there. Got to see her in concert in '88. I snuck in a cassette recorder and recorded the concert. If anyone knows how to copy cassettes onto a PC, or CD let me know.

When CD's appeared back in the 90's, one of the first CD's I bought was one of hers.
Great voice, very sad news.

Drugs and alcohol ruin many lives. They also bring great happiness, how else to explain the hold they have over so many lives

Agreed, Charlie. Unfortunately it's not an enduring happiness. In fact, for a lot of drugs, the best experience with it is the first one. Every time after that people are just chasing that high.
