Just got back from our round trip of SoCal. rock tour. Thanks to all the information from the local members we had a great time. We over did it a bit but still had a blast. Pictures will be coming soon.
Left the house in Westminster about 10am and arrived at Gem Hill a little after 1pm. We took the dirt roads to the base of the hills. The little Scion XB did well. We hiked up the hill remembering the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid thought about not getting robbed going down the hill etc. So we didn't pick up anything on the way up. Coming down the hill with a couple of bags wasn't easy either. Did I say it was windy. Really windy!. I'm 6'1" 220 lbs and was almost blown over a few times. Yes, Paul, I did find the "seam". We collected our brains out and started on our way back.
Is it always this easy collecting rocks? We stopped to talk to a couple who were dirt bike riding. They were camping there for the weekend. They wondered how we did rockhounding. She pointed out that someone had dumped out a bunch of rocks by the fire pit. Whoever left them there, Thank you! Geodes (cut) slabs, ocean rocks and so much more. We left much of it there for others to enjoy. So check the fire pit at Gem Hill!
Made it to the Desert Inn in Mojave around sunset. If you are in the Mojave area this is a nice clean place to stay the night. $50 was well worth it.

Hey, that's awesome Bill! Sounds like you guys are hitting it off really well. I'm looking forward to seeing your photos! And I'm glad you found that agate "seam".
