If you can see the trailer in the middle of the picture, that's where the fire pit is with all the free geodes and other great stuff. Attachments:

Thanks for the pics and trip report. Gem Hill is on our "to do" list and we're waiting for you guys to tell us where all the good stuff is at!
Of all the sites we've been to, almost all the roads are pretty mellow and if you take it easy, any car can navigate them. Most common problem I've seen is loose sand. Even a Jeep does lousy in sand and the key trick is momentum. Haul butt, drive straight and don't stop!
Think the high desert got a little rain & snow today. Burr, is it cold!

Hey, Bill! Those are great photos. Looks like you two had a great time last weekend. Larry probably would have laughed had he seen me a couple of years ago, using my Intrepid around some of these locations. The long wheel base makes for a nice ride on the freeway but is certainly NOT what you'd take up some dirt roads . You Scion's short wheelbase probably helped. I'm looking forward to seeing your other photos. Thanks for taking us along! Paul

Larry, We did get stuck in the sand. Just finished up at the Kramer Hills site next to Hwy 395 and attemped a three point turn and nothing. Got that sinking feeling right away. Got Tina to get in the drivers seat and had her back up while I pushed. Thank goodness for a little car. We made it out and now I know the limits of the car. It also pulled off the passenger side bumper. Plastic car parts just snap back into place. Fun time!
The road in should be very easy for a Jeep. Just park near the fire pit hub. It's a bit of a hike up to the "saddle" of the hill. The wind blew us up the hill and held us up on the way down. We ended up with a 30 lb cat litter tub of material from that site. Also the scraps from fire pit area. The couple we spoke to said there was a wash to the north near the dirt road that has a lot of pet. wood.
I really don't know what I have from the site. It was dark by the time we got home. I was hoping to check the haul out after work the past two days, but traffic has been so bad I haven't been able. My 30 mile drive has taken two hours on Tuesday and Wednesday. Looks like Saturday will be the day I sort it out. It's been cold here too.

Some of the material from Gem Hill. Many of the larger rocks (not shown) are headed for the garden. Some will even make it to Tina's 6th grade class. Attachments:
