Hi All, Great day with the rocks today because my upgrade stuff from jsgems arrived just in time for the weekend (Thank you, John!!!)! I went upstairs at about 7ish this morning and started to work on the machine and made sure to photo document the whole thing...so far. Here goes! This is my unit And this is my sc wheel The hand mangling setup with the 2.5" expando drum. The best $15.00 I ever spent...a truing stick for the sc wheel SC wheel after a hot 2 minutes of truing 2.5" expando drum replaced with a 220 Galaxy wheel :-)! How tight a fit the wheel is on the end shaft. Polishing pad fit right back on because it's a great splash guard for that side of the machine! And then I kinda got lost because I really did need to test that Galaxy wheel and the entire configuration for roughing and shaping... So I didn't get to the expando level and belts yet because I got sucked in, BUT there is always next weekend... And while I was taking breaks, I put 2 coats of latex onto the Lot-O tower while throwing wood on the fire in the heater! Overall, a productive day! Didn't get anything finished but certainly, things are well underway and I am very happy with the 220 Galaxy wheel!!!! Definitely an upgrade from the expando and I really like having the extra room in there for my hands! I did nail my fingertips, but my knuckles are good AND infinitely better than working on an sc belt! So far John, I am a happy camper! Cathy

That machine looks relatively new. Most of the ones I come across are on their way to rusted out. The older machines didn't have the end tapped hole either. So are you going to remove the 220 to use the expando?

I'm thinking about that right now. My thought is that I might be able to remove the 100, put the 220 there and put the expando with the next belt up where the wheel is right now. I like having the two grits available in the event I mess up and need to move back down a stage. I bought the machine last spring and have actually done quite a bit with it...for me. I'm psycho about cleaning it up, though, as I want it to last and had read about the paint on Lortones being prone to rust. I haven't found that to be the case, but I wash and dry it after every use.
I didn't even get to the saw blade or the expando yet! Will definitely post when I do! So far, I couldn't be happier! Thanks for all of the help!
Cathy

What keeps the Galaxy wheel from sliding toward the SC wheel? Usually you can stack the wheels with spacers between and tighten down all with one end nut. You may be able to move the 220 closer to the SC and get the 1.5" expando on. They might be close but maybe better than swapping wheels out.

The smallest bushing? (the pvc tubes in the center of the wheel) from the 2.5 expando and a very large metal washertype thingie that you see on the other two wheels. The shaft is actually two sizes. I was thinking about trying that and maybe having two of the 1.5 expando drums as I move up on belt grits. I'll try to get better photos for you tonight. What do they use for spacers?

I cut mine using PVC pipe but you have to cut them completely square. Any kind of flat fender washers or thrust collars would work also.
