i cut up leather i got from that special person on here who sent me some leather scraps. i cut some up into one to two inch pieces and put them into a 3# tumbler about 3/4s full and then added some flourite i am still trying to get polished and about two heaping tablespoons of tripoli. i will let the flourite tumble for 3 weeks? or any helpful advice will be appreciated. thanks, charlie

Charlie, where are you in the process? Has the fluorite been tumbled in earlier grits? I've tumbled it, but not dry, and I didn't use tripoli to get a polish. I'll be happy to share what I did, but I am also curious to see how yours turns out with this method.

i just started this on feb 25. after the tripoli, i will go to ao polish. i will keep the leather and tripoli for further use if it works. and i have plenty of leather to do with the ao polish if it works. i have some that i did in corncobs with ao polish and they have better polish than wet polish but i am trying to get them to shine. they have been tumbled first to get round. i have been trying these for a couple of years so far. i try and then put them aside to to agates and such, then catch up with other stuff and try to get them polished. they look so good when wet but after they dry they don't look like that. charlie

The first time I polished them I did it wet, with Rockshed AO, andthey turned out very well. I then did a burnish with borax, and they looked worse than they did after 1000 grit. I'm not sure what happened there, since there was no chance of contamination. I went back to 1000, then to Rockshed AO again, but this took about two weeks to get a good polish (rotary).
The second batch was done in the Lotto. Three days in 1000 grit gave me a great polish, and I did nothing else.
All of this was wet--please let us know what happens.
