That's really neat, that you can cook them up the old fashioned way... and maybe more rewarding too! Plus, you can roast marshmallows and hot dogs and scare the local wildlife with singing while you wait:).
So much talent on the forum!

Woody - I have tried some Flint Ridge in the roaster, and it will get the pinks, yellows and orange colors to come out a wee bit, but it wont turn the stone into that waxy, knappable form. You need to have temps up to about 700-800 degrees, and the roaster (without the inner pan) will only reach about 550 deg. Some of the lesser Ohio flints like Coshoctan and Nethers do well in the roaster and lower temps though.
Helen - we actually did do the hotdogs over the fire last fall while we cooked the last batch!! lol
