I have been lurking for a while now and finally broke down and signed up. I have been a rockhound most of my life on and off, but never too serious. A few years ago my wife and I fell on some hard times and turned to rockhounding as something we could do with the kids on a fairly regular basis that was inexpensive and would get us outdoors. Well, we pretty much got hooked, big time. Now we spend any weekends we can getting out and exploring our area.
You guys have a great community here and I hope to help it grow.
SG

Welcome to the forum and good to meet you! What state are you in? There's a bunch to do in SoCal if you're from around here. Paul

I am in Arizona. Phoenix to be exact. The wife and I have been talking about making a trip to hound in SoCal. Hopefully in the next few months.

Post and let the RTH'ers know if/when you make it out this way. I'm sure we could get a nice field trip together and it would be great to meet you in person! Paul

G'day there SG, welcome. Your story a bit like mine, been rocking all my life but done nothing about it until recently. How I came upon this site I am buggered if I know, but I am sure glad I did. Oh yeh, I remember, I googled vibrator. HEHEHE. True, a fair dinkum aussie would not lie. I really got hooked when we were in Gallup, NM one summer, found lots of petrified wood there, and sent a whole lot home. Sort of cascaded from there. Then I sent home a lot of beach rocks from Alaska, Karen (wifey) thought I was crazy (but I already knew that). He who laughs last laughs best, we did a lot oohing and aahing when the first polished beach rocks came out of the cellar. Now she wants to go south and find some more rocks (this off course also involves camping, sightseeing, and lots of photo opportunities to satisfy her hobby). As for me, I started out with a 3lb Chicago tumbler on 8 February, a mere 7 weeks ago. Now, I also have a double 3lber Chicago tumbler, 2 5lb Chicago vibes, 2 UV10 Thumler vibes, a new 15 lb Thumler tumbler, another homemade 15lb tumbler still to be fixed up, and a Fran Tom cabbing setup (also needs to be fixed up). Where did I go wrong? Probably got jealous of the gear some of the members have and what they produced from that.
I'm having a ball, learning all about my "new" hobby, and learning lots from the 'community'. We loved Phoenix in winter, luckily we got out before it got too hot. The four corner states, a great place to be if you want to go 'bush'. Timbo

Wow. You guys really know how to make a guy feel welcome!
Thank You.
The desert rockhounding season is just about over for us. That is after this weekend. Got 1 last trip to go, the Raynert mine on Sunday(15th), given that the field trip is still happening. After that though, it is time to hit the higher country! Rim country here we come.
