I am a beginner. My 7 yo found my old lortone tumbler in a closet that was bought 10 yrs ago for my older children. We never got shiny rocks yrs ago when we tried. I almost dreaded trying again since I was frustrated with my past attempts. I still had the old rocks that were smooth but not shiny. After reading alot of these threads I went back and burnished them before polishing, gave them some time polishing and amazingly I had shiny rocks. We have tumbled another batch from scratch with good results. People on this board clearly have alot more experience than I do but for me the wash/ burnish before polishing was the key for you beginners. Thanks for all you threads. They were very imformative and you all seem so pleasant. Thanks

Welcome, Cardio. I'm new here this month too, and already this board has been tremendously helpful to me. There's a lot to see and learn, and to take inspiration from. Enjoy to new hobby/obsession!

Thanks for all the encouragement. I thought I would post a photo of my results. I don't have a before picture, just an after photo. I will take a shot of my rough next time. For those of you who say this is addictive I understand what you mean now. I took the family skiiing in wyoming last week and on plane flight home all I could think about was how my new batch of Ohio Flint was doing. Thanks again Attachments:

and on plane flight home all I could think about was how my new batch of Ohio Flint was doing. Thanks again I think we've all had that feeling! Welcome. I am fairly new, too, and have learned a lot.
