Hi all. I just refurbed a really old HP 10" saw. It is different from any I've seen and I wonder how old it is? It appeared to have original paint which was a very pale green. The HP label is a brass plaque that says Highland Park and model E-5. The bearing is a bronze bushing in a housing that is part of the saw table casting rather than the usual bolt on arbor assy that attaches to the tank. Anybody an HP history buff? By the way, I found a "Rocks" catalog in my dad's things recently if anybody needs info on those units. I wish I could find the same for HP. Thanks.

My earliest HP catalogue is 1965, and the e-5 had sealed ball bearings then. Don Depoe could not help? Woody

I have not tried him yet. They bought HP line from Contempo Lapidary so not sure how much info they have on the ancient stuff but it doesn't cost anything to ask. Thanks Woody.

I wish we did have an HP expert here. About 10 years ago I bought an HP combo unit that had one motor, but a transmission of sorts to transfer the power to either the saw side or to the grinding wheel side. I was moving in 2007, so I sold it without getting it up & running. I was stupid enough to not even take pictures of the mechanism. Kick me please!
The trays & hoods were galvanized sheet metal. The cabinet was angle iron with a plywood box bolted to it. There were 2 knobs that you turned to direct power to either side. I mentioned it to Don Depue & he had never heard of it. Of course it was made way before Diamond Pacific acquired HP.
