Clothes pins? Cool fix! Another thing, there is only 5 lbs of force before the clutch slips, if adjusted right.

softer that the threaded rod... Yup. Good point. It did occur to me but in the process to find something that would work, I kinda ignored that fact. Luckily it is softer but not by as much as I would like. I think maybe I will remake one in brass or copper soon.

Brian the Covington tech told me he uses a cheap fish scale and hooks it to the front of the table and then onto the vise rod. Turns the feed on and adjusts the clutch to slip at 5 lbs.

It took me awhile to figure out what ya all were talking about when you mentioned cross feed. Once I figured it out I became a little jealous. I decided to see what I could throw together quick. It's one of those 45 minute jobs so I am sure others could do a lot better if they took the time and spent a little money. Considering it didn't really cost me anything, I'm happy with it. It is only 1/4 20 so it doesn't have real fine adjustment but good enough for me. I still need to dig up a knob for the end. 6 turns seems to be about right when kerf of blade, wobble of blade, and the play/sloppiness in my contraption.

You da man! Great fabrication! I see one issue. Your phillips head bolt on the vise has to be tight when you're sawing. Otherwise the vise will ride up the blade. May want to come up with some sort of knob or T handle bolt so you can loosen it, move the vise and then tighten it back down without carrying a screw driver in your pocket.
One thing I think is odd, why did Covington go through all that trouble just to make a auto shut off? Why not use a limit or micro switch to shut the feed motor off? No, they had to come up with all that linkage and drilling a tiny hole in the toggle switch, which is kind of Mickey Mouse. Oh well, I'm not an engineer, just a picky customer.
One mod I need to do to my saw is make some kind of elevated cover for that drain hole on the back of the table. At times, coolant being whipped up by the blade likes to splatter out of that hole at about a 45 degree angle.
