I am so disappointed. A couple of weeks ago I came across this site and decided to do something with my rocks. I read some of the posts, and it looked pretty easy. Since they were only beach rocks I purchased a Thumbler UV 10 vibrator, from America as the Oz$ is stronger than the US$, and had it sent out. The suggestions on this site were great, you throw in some rocks, add some grit (you can use rough sand first, smooth sand second and some powder, like body talc, for polishing). Sit back and relax.
Well, firstly you can't sit back, because holding the vibrator makes you bend forward. That son of a gun is heavy with all the rocks in it. Secondly, you can't relax, because you have to keep moving the vibrator forwards and backwards to make the rocks grind against each other. Thirdly, the vibrator was supposed to be quick, but no, it's horribly slow, I have been shaking it for two weeks and the rocks are still rough.
On the plus side, the muscles on my arms are like footballs and I have a six-pack on my stomach, no small feat for a man my age. On the negative side, vibrating for 24 hours at a stretch which you-all recommend is mucking up my sleeping regime.
So, what can I do to make it all come together. I am desperate, I have spent all this money on a vibrator and not getting much from it at all, other than I don't have to pay for the gym anymore. I come from a small country town, we have few resources I can fall back on, pretty backward here, we use fencing wire instead of duck tape as a fix-all, say G'day instead of Hi, and kangaroos attack and bend car bull bars here, instead of deer fender benders in America. :help: :help: :help:

Since you're from down under, try holding it upside down over your head for better action.

My best guess would be that you're shaking it too hard.

It's great to hear from someone with a wonderful sense of humor! The image in my mind of seeing you shaking the tumbler is almost too much.
Gawd do I miss Melbourne!

Aw, thanks fellas. Truthfully, this site has been a tremendous help, and if I could only work out how to post a photo correctly, I would show you what I have produced since I stared a few weeks ago. I can take a photo ok, but isn't there a restriction on what I can post?

Excellent! I use a free web host here photobucket.com/ and repost from there using the bottom code of the drop down menu on each of the photos. I think, technically, we're supposed to post photo's of rocks...although there have been those who have posted photos of random natural phenomena, such as owls and the aurora of late. Welcome to the site and have fun. Lots to learn here and good people to hang out with. Cathy

Lol Mr. Byng Bunyip, I loved your post!!! Cathy's choice of photo hosts is my favorite! Resize the picture to 600 or a little less and it is perfectly viewable on this site (you can do that in Photobucket by clicking the edit button)! Can't wait to see the pictures you show us!!!

Sheltie, sorry, I gave Melbourne away when they renamed Spencer Street "Southern Cross". Keystonecops, them's swearing words, I drink Tooheys New when in Oz, naturally upgraded to Chardonnay here MyNewhHobby, thanks mate (I think the word can be bisexual) edmostly, you don't know how true that is. I grew up near where the first payable gold was found in Australia, and yes, I have panned in that creek at Ophir (and once saw a platypus there) roy, I tried, honest. You can't keep a good man down hey rockrookie, is that a bear eating your hand or eating out of your hand??? Never hunted bear, shot 200 rabbits one night though, about 45 years ago (damn, gave my age away) tntmum, I'll give it a try, I presume that is a dog on your lap, and not an angora goat or white haired chinchilla rabbit johnatjsgems, don't know that one, I'll have to ask the wife
I must say that the amount of information you girls and guys have put on this site has really helped me, as has the information and support from Thomas (Connrock), who today proudly watched his son throw ball for his college team. I knew absolutely nothing about tumbling, vibeing, etc etc three weeks ago, know an awful lot now, but off course only in theory Thanks everyone, its fun, rocking, isn't it timbo

Welcome, You said you use fence wire for repair kits instead of tape. Assuming there are plenty of fences, perhaps some are electrified; try holding the tumbler under one arm and grabbing the fence with the other hand, will certainly give a shaking effect.
