This piece of Midnight Lace rough was ground with 60/90 for 10 days in my rotary and then taken to my flat lap to grind out the remaining pits/crevices. Check this baby out!!!! This puts my old piece of favorite Midnight Lace to shame! It's ready for the #220 run in my Lot-O as soon as my Lot-O becomes available in a few days: Rough and ready.... SO EXCITED about this piece (Picture taken WET): ![](http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/kgniot0709/P1040403.jpg) ![](http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/kgniot0709/P1040404.jpg) I can't wait to see this without the scratches!!! As some of you know, I'm working on a presentation/tutorial for my April 20th Rock Club meeting. I've been madly trying to get all of the stages complete as I only had a months notice. I tumbled a 12lb barrel in my Lortone rotary for 10 days and then proceeded to my flat lap to grind out remaining pits so that they are ready for the Lot-O vibe. I have my first batch in 500 right now in the Lot-O and spent this afternoon grinding out more of my 60/90 run on my lap. I came across the COOLEST piece of Midnight Lace I have yet to see!!! This piece is AWESOME and I will feature it in my tutorial at every stage from rough to polish. Of course I will have other pieces that I pull to show at my presentation, but this one will be the star of the tutorial! My tutorial is almost finished, around 12 pages long and will be complete when I add in all of the pictures from each stage. If anyone wants to see it in April when it's finished, I would be more than happy to post it.... word of caution though.... I'm kinda OCD on explaining things so.... it's long ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Krystee, incredible rock and you should also enter it in the next Killer Cab. Love the folds in the design! Also, I would love to read your presentation and OCD is good for those of us who are learning all of this stuff! Let me know where you post it when you do!!!! Good luck with the Lot-O! I really love that machine!

Thank you!
Cathy..... That's funny because I really really really wanted to turn this piece into a cab! Couldn't though..... this is a tumbling presentation and I only used the lap to grind out pits and crevices. I was tempted though to pull it and use it for my own good to cab, but...... this is for my club.... and RTH!!!!
It's going to look really cool when it completes the process!
I'm more than happy to post my tutorial. It's not done though yet..... should be in a couple of weeks. I don't mind posting a work in progress but think I should probably present first on April 20th before I post. I will probably have questions I didn't think about that I can incorporate into the tutorial.
What do you guys think? Wait until it's finished in it's entirety? Or.... post work in progress?
This is the first time I've ever agreed/done an ob tutorial before..... I feel like I'm swimming in unknown waters here.....

your lace looks so much better than anything I have seen so far. Mine never has the visual depth that yours does.
Hoping this new batch of rough I'm about to slab has something more interesting. I'd love any pro tips in terms of finding that type of depth.
When I look at my slabs they are black. I hold them up to light and I see the black and lighter stripes in them, but nothing close to what I've seen from you.

John, I lucked out with this piece. I split 12lbs of rough with a hammer and chisel and found this piece by surprise. With the pieces of Midnight Lace that I've slabbed I'm pretty hit or miss. I am primitive and slice it from every angle to decide which way is the best to proceed. Sorry I don't have great advice on this material, I've cabbed way more than I've slabbed.... As far as slabbing rainbow and sheens though, check out Jason's very informative thread: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=tips&action=display&thread=42517&page=1He probably also has the answer to your Lace cutting angle. Pretty sure you said your lace is from him too (as mine is....), right???

Thanks Krystee. I can't see any discernable pattern from the outside, I may try just windowing first and see if that helps. I did get everything I have from Jason except a few chunks but mine is lace, not the sheen stuff.

Hey Folks - Yeah seen your post here and thought I'd offer my :2cents: - When cutting the Midnight Lace, to be honest I don't have any secrets for orientation. What I do is dunk the piece in water and view the exterior of the stone. Often times the internal "lace" will show itself in the exterior of the stone. Once I see this I'll find the best patterns and cut across it. I personally like the more intense swirls, however in some pieces the lace pattern is pretty straight - So with these I cut slabs and then trim them for my flintknapping buddies so their finished arrowheads will have a stripe of two along the entire length of the point. Also as you said Krystee - Often times I cut various faces on the stone so I can yeild several different patterns from each stone
