now i have read more stories on line about this unit. power and shocks issuses should i just bite the bullet and get a genie? i realy liked the easy use of the flat top.

Yes, if you can afford one. I have both machines. The inland is OK for doing flat backs and specimens, but once you try the Genie, you'll never go back to cabbing on a lap. Your Inland laps and backing plates will fit the left end of a Genie, and you can get spin on discs for the right end.

Ooops ! My bad. I should have said that the 6" Inland laps and backers will fit the Genie. The 8" laps will fit the Titan.

Ameritool or High Tech Diamond flat laps are about 12 times better than Inland as far as durability and quality. Motor price is generally not an issue as they are made to be used. They do cost more but about 1/3 as much as a Genie. If you want to do cabs you would love the 6 wheel convenience of the Genie.

You can check craigslist and ebay as well, older belt drive flat laps and slant cabbers are preferrable to the ac/dc units in plastic cases, but the variable speed does have it's plusses. Our old Covington gets much use and it will never die.
