Howdy folks,
Washed and sorted my finds from yesterday so here are a bunch of pics. Lot of nice stuff but much nicer still when slabbed....Mel
Monster hunk of Pocket rot wood will all the pockets filled with crystal:
Another big block of wood in red and gold inside. Much more solid than the pocket rot with odd fan patterns inside. Unfortunately way too big for my little saw.
IMHOP the find of the trip. My wife found this. It's a monocot of some kind, probably a palm stem? In red and gold inside. Agatized full round with structures that look like buds or knots.
Only found a few pounds of palm wood but I'm always happy to find any.
Best piece of palm in a little rounded cobble. Most brightly colored palm I've ever found:
Big hunk of some kind of palm or palm root. Found this on the second road we checked where we found almost no other wood at all. Sometimes you just get lucky *L*
Small piece of pocket rot wood (dino bone wood) the wife found and was ready to throw away.
A little of the tumble wood. Picked up any colorful little chunks I spotted. Lots of nice little jasper pebbles too. I always plan to gather a bunch but always get distracted by the wood.
Here's another rock I overlook a lot. These banded flint nodules take a heck of a polish and are more colorful than polish flint.
Just regular old wood but quite colorful;
Wood with lots of moss agate inside so I guess that makes them more of a cast as they show little wood structure inside:
Super colorful shrinkwood:
Unknown wood type. I always find some of this and it is similar to snakewood but not quite the same. Never seems to be colorful but the odd spotted patterns are kind of interesting.
OK last pic. These are those odd lumpy agate masses I always find. Some have wood grain pattern on the outside while others are botryoidal. Inside they have mossy, plumy and lacy patterns. Guess they are some kind of wood cast but don't know for sure.
