Picked this guy up at a thift shop for $10. More cuz it was kinda cute(if motors can be cute) than any other reason. I suppose the threaded spindle was probably worth that much. It's only 1/16 hp and about 1100 rpm but seems like it may come in handy...and oh it is sooo cute ;D. Any way my question is should I be adding zoom spout oil in the little doors on each side of the the case? Inside each door is what looks like some sort of oily fabric threads. Also a little door on the back side of the motor

I've got a 1/16 hp motor similar to that,3450 rpm, wire stripper on the tag. Bought it for the heck of it,hope someone suggests a good use for them.

That oily fabric is a felt wick. Put a couple drops of oil on them about twice per year to keep the bushings lubricated. Don't know about the door. That may be a felt seal inside, to keep dirt out of the work end of the motor. Probably 2 or 3 drops of oil on that too.
Check to see if the motor has 2 large screws with springs and carbon brushes under them. If so, the motor can be hooked up to an old sewing machine peddle type speed control, and you'll have a very nice variable speed motor for polishing metal. Not much use for that small a motor, other than buffing small parts.
They are kind of cute. lol

If 3450 best to leave the tapered spindle and use with soft flannel buffs for metal polishing. See if tag says thermally protected". If not don't use it on anything you are not close by. A few of my dad's "cute old motors" smoked while I was using them and without any protection they were gone before I could shut them down. Unattended they could cause a lot more than $10 damage to your shop.

I do not believe it says anything about being thermally protected as well as the wiring is the old fabric covered type. Think I'll install a new cord... Oh and i was wrong about the hp. it says 1/30 hp....even cuter than I thought...

I bought four old motors like that and smoked one of them because I did not get enough oil to the bushings. I would add a lot of oil and leave it set for a couple of days so the oil can soak down to the bushings. jim
