I spent a total of 12 hours on the road and traveled 712 miles. I spent $55 on food (wife and child went with me and they were great company), $130 on gas, and $250 for the 12" Lorotone Saw and cabbing machine. The grand total was $435. Here is how they look right now (I am going to sand the outside of the saw tomorrow and repaint it). Cover is on backwards All of the stuff that looks like rust is just old gunk. I couldn't find one spot of rust on the inside and everything worked very well.

Looks like you made out. The saw looks like a real gem on the inside. As for the outsides, I've seen , (and owned) worse. You had a nice outing with the family, and brought home some goodies.

Rust usually isn't an issue if oil was used. I'm curious what brand name is on the cab unit? It's a new one for me I think.

Saw alone looks like it was worth the drive. A little sandblasting and some new parts on the cab machine and you just might have a gem in the rough! How are the motors?

John, Forgot to mention that they both have sat for over 20 years in a garage. That is why I looked the interior of the saw over so well. I will get a better look at the tag tomorrow on the cab machine and report back.
Cathy, The saw did not come with a motor but I had one so it wasn't a big deal. The cab machine runs smooth and so quiet! Much quieter than what I am used to! The guy bought expando wheels for it and never used them so he gave me those too. They are still supple and there aren't any visible cracks.
Sandblasting the outside tomorrow afternoon after we celebrate Easter.

Has the hood been reversed? Or is this really a left handed saw? Based on the placement of the window my guess is that the hood was turned around.

You're on to something Steve, the pics are definitely taken from the rear of the saw tub. Is the lid just removable on the older Lortone saws?

Nice find! The older lortone saws in 12 and I think 14" didnt have a hinge, the lid just sat there. Make sure you tie them on when you put them in the back of the pickup.

Lid is removable and the pics are from the back end. It's still in the car. Scott

I have that exact same saw and I have gotten a bunch of slabs from it in the last year and a half. I have never used a different brand of saw but I think this one does a great job. I think that mine even has the same dent in the lid. lol Jim

I disassembled everything today. If I can get around to it, I hope to sandblast everything except the vise carriage this week. I want to leave something original just because I always try to do that and the carriage had too many parts for me to get to today. Scott
