Nice sunshiny day so I grabbed my hammer and chisel and went to work. I was trying to accomplish three things to start with. Get rid of a bunch of stone quickly, find a depth that would be close to center of her body and learn how this stone is going to carve. I am going to have to round out her waist to find the correct depth because trying to eyeball it is not working. Going too far at this point is not a problem because I can always take a little off the shoulder (the nearest point) and be back on track. The main thing is to get an even depth all the way around so I have a point to work down to. Then it is just a matter of taking everything down to the correct depth and making it all pretty. All I used today was a common wood chisel. Jim I figured out that I was way to shallow and somehow I had the water at a steep angle. Not sure how I managed to do that. Leveled up the water and went about 5/16" deeper all around. Things are going to slow way down now. The easy part is finished. lol

I'm already impressed by the commitment it's going to take to work until finished. Following the progress is going to be fun!

I agree. It's going to be fun to watch this progress. What type of rock is it? Jo

Ah, I just saw your other thread... looks like a rose colored marble. Whatever it is, it sure is pretty. Jo

I bought this stone a long time ago and I am not positive but I am pretty sure it is raspberries and cream alabaster. The alabaster part I am sure of and I am pretty sure it comes from Utah. The hardness can not be over 2.5 to 2.8 which is somewhat softer than marble. Jim
