Eighty miles, Mel. ;D Saw this over on Bob’s Rock Shop. Lapidary auction this Saturday, April 21. My name is Robert Poteet, I am the President of the Highland Lakes Gem and Mineral Society . I am having a personal estate auction on April 21 at 9am.
I have 40+ years of rocks I have collected, agate, onyx, obsidian, apache tears, petrified rock ect.raw and polished. I also have 3 rock saws and several polishers, everything will go to the highest bidder. The pictures of the rocks don't do the collection justice . . . I am also auctioning my collection of spheres.

Interesting auction. The first estate auction I've been to. I hoped turn out would be low but MAN what a crowd. The rough rock all sold at what I thought was high prices as well as most of the equipment. My perspective is buy dirt cheap so I can refurbish and resell at a profit though. I hoped to find Llanite and palm wood cheap. The Llanite was sold as a lot and it was one boulder 125-150 lbs. and a few small pieces. All the lots were sold by type and bids were high at least in part due to large lots. I'm guessing from a retail customer's perspective it was a good opportunity. I think I prefer estate sales where you can dicker over prices not get into bidding frenzies. I got away only spending $20 and nothing rock related.
