What a great little boy, and lemonade stands have long been a fine example of a great way for kids to earn money for a project, or a worthy charitable cause. They also provide kids with their first taste of Capitalism and running a business. Many kids have progressed from their first lemonade stand to becoming entrepreneurs who create new businesses, that provide jobs for others. Sadly, there are many in local governments these days who are slowly but surely putting an end to this activity, and are now teaching the young folks that they will be punished if they engage in this American tradition. I wonder what has changed, and what these officials are thinking? Local Restrictions on Kid-Run Concession Stands maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=h&msid=216364681034727844264.0004a922c6f586938b43e&source=embed&ll=36.102376,-102.041016&spn=33.841828,56.25&z=4 *Update* Upon further investigation, I think I found the answer, the government does not want America to "be about the people". Lemonade stands foster dangerous ideas not compatible with the Nanny State, i.e., the age old lessons of working hard and giving of your best while acquiring wealth to better your family's lifestyle and economic security and independence. It has been discovered that this dangerous practice teaches out-dated concepts such as the fundamentals of Capitalism; how to make money by earning sales, Developing goals, Importance of reinvestment in the business, Savings for long term, Customer service and the Importance of hard work and dedication. They could even become. . . *(Gasp)* Millionaires! Farrah Gray was raised in a predominantly black Chicago neighborhood. At age 8, he started a lemonade stand business, later a venture capital business, a food business and a magazine. By age 17, Farrah Gray was a millionaire, had been chief executive of four companies, and had offices on Wall Street, and in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. 80 percent of today’s American millionaires are first-generation rich, a very disturbing trend. . .

What a heartwarming story! And I totally agree that stopping kids from lemonade stands is just wrong.
Republicans have to protect their businesses, and those kids must be competition. We can't have lemonade stands or any type of unlicensed vendors here. Republicans have to protect businesses.
Florida is a completely Republican state, and you'd better have a license for EVERYTHING so someone can squeeze you for money and protect business interests. A little boy might steal $.25 from businesses selling lemonade for $2.

Wow Helen, no matter what is said you have to put a political spin on it. So how about this... If this $10000 dollars of compassion were administered by one of your Democrat (yes, yours, even our more liberal colleages on this forum surely don't buy your Reagan Republican schpiel. Tell me true, are you a plant?) Then it would cost the taxpayers about half a million.

Lee, plant for what? I am absolutely and have always been a Reagan Republican. You forget that Reagan spent 1/2 his career as a Democrat, and other half of his career as a Republican.
Reagan Republican means Moderate. I don't care about which party, I care that we are following common sense rules for Gov't that does not infringe on anyone's liberties, and does not impose burdens on citizens, while NOT FAVORING any particular segment. NOT big business, and NOT labor. I am JUST as outspoken about labor unions as I am about big business, and I am GLAD Florida is a 'right to work' state (NO requirement to join labor unions in Florida). Moderates are FAIR-minded by common sense rules.
I'm no happier giving Democrats money than Republicans, and there's PLENTY of corrupt Democrats too. I've said this before... several times.
As for political spin on the issue, Gray brought that up about the legalities and who affects it. You can see where Florida stands on lemonade stands from his link. Florida is a Republican state, that tells you why the stance.

The state officials who are mostly Republican are not the ones making these decisions, it is local city and county governments. So one would need to know their politics before being able to pin this on the state government, and perhaps I am overly partisan for thinking that odds are they are libs.
