tile saws spew out a lot of water, but they cut fast, you can get a used pretty cheap and with a little creativity you can make them a little dryer. the plastic shield is just some lexan that I cut, got it from a really ugly and cheap painting, you can also purchase those poster frames and have 2 pieces to use for less than $10 the square aluminum is super glued down and I use as a fence, it's 1/4" away from the blade and works well, the sponges in the back keep a large amount of the spray down without needing the guard. duct tape hold the shield in place, it does get dirty, I just cleaned it. Water still sprays out the sides, more of a heavy mist really, but not bad, I use it in my garage.

Hmmmm, I use a 4" tile saw for trimming, and don't have the water spewing problem. I did when I first started learning, had to wear a raincoat, but then was told to keep the water level just so it covers the diamonds on the blade. No more raincoat...

yeah I keep a lot of water in mine and it's 7" don't know if that makes a difference, as the water runs low it doesn't spray as much, but there is still that mist because of the high rpms. Guess it depends on the kind of saw too, don't know, it's the only one I've really used so far.

For agate and some hard jasper, I let the water get lower, and spray reduces. In those cases the water is mostly for cooling. But for many jaspers, and all stones with some matrix - the ones that cut dirty - plenty of water is needed to keep the cut clean. Here the water also needs to lubricate, and to clear the debris. Having the tray ful of water, and even having some water squirting right at the blade, is very helpful.

excellent point and I guess I tend to cut "dirty" rocks as there lots of sludge on the table that I need to wash away to keep a level surface etc.
