Rules: _____________ In order to encourage competition and diversity, entries submitted to this contest must be unique to the RTH version of the Killer Cab Contest. I will monitor the other forum(s) for duplicate entries, and any duplicates will be disqualified. Entries are cabs only. Completed during this two week contest period. Not cabs pulled from the drawer. We include a pic of the original slab, then a pic of the preform, and finally, the finished cab. Please try to remember at least a pic or two of the original slab and or preform. Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the mineral, and or what ever else you would like to share. You can enter any shape cab and your choice of mineral. Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs can not be entered in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. Cabs posted here are only for the contest. __________________ Now get cabbing! Read more: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=comptime&action=display&thread=51753&page=1#ixzz1sJZE0qI1

I am amazed, with all of the great cabbers on this forum, that there is only one entry with only two days left.

Hi. Sorry, I don't have a pic of this before I started, I started it about a month ago and am still working on it. I was doing some final polishing about a week ago and guess I got it too hot or something, it started to flake in the center. But it's still a killer stone! Material is turquoise from the Royston mine in Nevada. natural grade AAA. Weight is approx 155 carats (cheap scale isn't too accurate). Can't make up my mind whet er to leave as is or cut in half to remove the flake area. Does it qualify? thanks Phil Attachments:

How neat, great for you to join in. Hope, I can still make it on time as I still struggle with my "Lady in Black".

Well we are now in the final day to enter the Killer Cab Contest, at least here on the east coast. I was really hoping that there would be more people interested in participating.

Beautiful entries! Here's mine: a local flint nodule, which I sliced and cabbed. Some of them are not very spectacular, but I found this one nicely banded. Firstly, the nodule: Then, the preform: And two pics of the finished cab: Adrian

Nice entries guys. Should I extend this contest for another two weeks, or should I wrap it up and get a new one started?

Don, IMHO I think you should put this contest to an end now. I think that perhaps the next contest should not be started until 5/15 or even 6/1 and maybe going forward this should become a monthly contest instead of a bi-monthly contest. There does not seem to be enough interest and participation to support a contest every two weeks. Look at the numbers they speak for themselves: The 1st contest 2/17-2/29 had 2654 views of the thread the 2nd contest 3/1- 3/15 had 1368 views " the 3rd contest 3/16-3/31 had 895 views " the 4th contest 4/01-4/15 had 600 views " the 5th contest 4/16-4/30 had 206 views "
It is obvious that there has been a consistent loss of interest in this contest since it has started. The number of people who viewed this thread is down by over 92% from the number who viewed the 1st contest. I am astounded that with this being a rock forum that the majority of it's members were not even interested in looking at this contest thread. Has there been an overall drop in the number of users who signed in to the forum itself or is this drop just isolated to this thread? In any event I think this contest should be closed now before the lack of interest becomes a bigger embarrassment than it already is. A rock forum where the majority of it's members don't even want to view a thread for a rock contest? There is definitely something wrong with this picture!

I agree with Stu...partly. I don't think it is so much a loss of interest as it is a loss of time. If you're working, it's really hard to participate and easy to just give up. Slowing down the schedule to monthly or even every 6 weeks might perk interest. I also don't find the contest an embarrassment, just a sign that it's really hard out here in the working world and the time we have for working on rocks is really precious right now. Maybe thinking about the photographic work involved as well might be good. Spending the hour to set up for shooting slabs or stopping in the middle to do the cab... well, not everyone has that kind of time. If there is a choice between finishing the cab and having to stop to do a photo shoot, I'm going with finishing the cab. Just my thoughts for what they are worth.
