Hi Cathy, The last thing I wanted to do was cause you any pressure in needing to enter a contest. This is supposed to be fun. I agree that bi weekly is overkill. Monthly would be better. I to have had works in process that couldn't be finished in two weeks. No problem I just didn't enter that contest and I entered the following one. So in doing so there is your one month . I posted a thread about the contest just a few minutes ago. In the thread I noted that I think many of the great cabs posted in the creating cab section didn't have before pictures and as such could not be entered. I personally like to take a picture of all my slabs before I cut them but I tend to be a bit anal. However it might not be a bad idea as it is nice to be able to show people what your cab looked like before you worked on it. I don't think it would be a problem if you didn't have a picture of the preform as long as you at least had a picture of the slab. No need to set up a major photo shoot for the sab shot just a quick point and shoot pic of the slab. Thanks for the entry and for your effort to support the contest. Stu

I am loving all of the feedback that is being given and so far it seems to me that a contest every two weeks is overkill. I as well as everyone else will find a monthly contest better. I know many of us have works in process for many months due to limited time and might not have thought of taking a picture of the original slab or preform way back when they started the cab. However moving forward taking a quick point and shoot shot of your slab before you start might be a good practice to get into. If not for the contest at least to be able to have a before and after comparison. If you don't have a preform picture I don't think that would be a problem. I think the whole idea of when the cab was done should be scrapped. There should be no time limit on creativity. As long as you can show the slab and or preform and the finished cab I couldn't care if it took a person ten years to finish it. I also think the resrtiction that disqualifies a cab that has been entered in another contest should also be scrapped. That is like saying if a movie won the Golden Globe award can't get an Oscar. Keep the suggestions coming:) Stu

Wow I am learning so much from looking at these contests and this one is no exception. The orientation of that laguna cab captured and brought out the pattern perfectly. Love the transparent part almost like glass. What a joy it must have been bringing that cab to life Maybe I will try my hand at one sooner or later though these cabs would be hard to compete against

I really enjoy these contests and I am glad that they will continue. I think one a month is better, being new it will give me more time to get a cab ready when I am good enough to enter.
I to also like the change that you made in letting the votes be viewable before you make your vote. Like George said in another post:
"I like the fact that the votes are not hidden. Being new I might not know what to look for when making my choice, but now I can see by the other votes which one must be the correct (based on the number of votes already cast) choice. Perhaps someone could post some criteria that we should look for when judgeing and voting"
I was ready to pick the laguna but when I went to the voting page and saw all of the votes that were made I thought that maybe I was missing something because of the way everyone has been voting If you make a list of things a cab should have it will also help us new people learn what features have to be made on a cab to be a good cab also

This is about the continuation of this Competition, why don't you move it from Competition to the Creating Cabachons? I think it would be seen better and maybe it would a little better seen and more people would enter thay. I just think that since we are Creating Cabachons?

Just seeing this for the first time! (I tend to check just the wire wrapping thread.) I love seeing the slab pics and then the cab, so I hope you keep that part. It certainly gives me incentive to get my Genie powered up to join in the fun! OR... Even though I'm not a 'seller' on this forum, I have more rock than I can possibly cab in my lifetime it seems. Mind if I offer these to the 'winner' for the May contest? Small but sweet little trio...let me know, and I'll post a couple more pics on your May thread! ~D
