Cathy I love the shape of that pointed cab, and I think your wire wrapping skills are very good. The gold wire looks great with the color of the stone. However, and this is just my opinion, I think there might be a little to much going on. I don't know what that piece going down the middle of the stone is called but I think it detracts from the stone. It is as if that piece has become the focal point of the piece. I really like the idea of having the cab drilled and attached to a bail in conjunction with the wrapping but I think having two bails looks odd. I think if you could have wrapped the stone as you did minus the wrapped bail combined with the bail that is attached to the two hole that you drilled would make for a very unique KILLER piece. You are very creative indeed. Stu

Loking great! As far as I see, al that wrapping along the contour og the cab is purely decorative, right?

Now that is what I call thinking out of the box. Very creative and original. Now just to refine the idea a little and clean it up.

Ok, I should say something... This piece is technically a collaborative effort, kinda. Dave, who runs the Barn which is my local clubs lap shop, handed me the cab last Sunday and said "I want to see what you can do with this, what you can come up with, and I want to see it before I die...meaning soon." He had cabbed and drilled it at that point so my job was to come up with something "creative" in the form of wrapping it...within a reasonable amount of time.
I work full time and during the week don't have much time to devote to rocks, much as I would love to. Basically, checking on the tumblers when I've got them running is about as much as I can muster on a work day. Weekends are my time to really plug in and with the local club taking two Sundays and Friday every month, that gets cut into as well. Anyway, yesterday I decided to sit down and knock this project out so I could work on getting the last few stages of the 14 cabs I'm working by hand going today.
I knew I wanted this suspended and that copper and bronze were what was needed for the wire. This is done in 20 g square copper for the base and 24g half round bronze for the wraps. I wasn't crazy about the stone or the shape, it's a leopardskin jasper which is obviously rather pointy...okay extremely pointy and I would never create a cab like that if it were me which was probably why Dave did because he knew I wouldn't. The thingie going down the middle is a "crooked path" because swirlies would look rediculous on such an angular piece and, in my humble opinion, the stone was pretty boring and had no focal point. The round thing (bail) at the top is actually a negative space filler because I didn't want that space empty and felt that one seriously solid circle would offset the pointy shape which I didn't particularly like.
I think if I were to do it again, I would make the "crooked path" longer and maybe end it with a small triangle so it looked like an arrow. I'd also straighten the wrap a little as I see in the picture now that it is a little off. Other than that, for a rock I wasn't thrilled about working with, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Oh, the top jump ring I'd change too as it's pretty weak and I could never sell the pendant with it as it would fall off within an hour.
With that said, I've had three offers on it on facebook, where I posted it so that Dave could see it before he died. I also have people I don't even know commenting on it...wanting to know where my site/catalogue is, which I'm not so sure how I feel about. If I ever speak to Dave again which is dubious at this point as he has reposted it on his FB page and is being very ellusive, he will be grounded for life.
I still have 14 cabs to finish...

Unique. I agree though, the center wire takes away from your eye going directly to the stone. One drill hole better than two. Let the beauty of the stone shine through. Nice piece anyway you look at it!
