To all that may be interested in doing some soft stone carving.
Some finer points have been brought up that have me rethinking this project.
Set up as a class is kind of the way I am leaning now. I am still open to any suggestions. I was thinking that it would be cool if everyone sent their carving to another carver so everyone could see up close and personal what the others are doing but that may be out also.
Many questions and few answers at this time. I have never organized anything like this before but I am persistent. Jim

Great idea. Could be just whats needed to get a lot of people started in the craft. I'm not in though, because shipping from the US cost just as much (if not more) than all the materials together. Looking forward to what all of you come up with.

I wouldn't mind trying that:). I just can't do it right now... maybe in a month I can start with carving:). I've got a dremel, but I've never tried to carve soft stones...

Kurt brought up some points that are causing me to rethink this a little. I do not see this happening for a while and I do not want to make it a rush thing where someone would not be able to take their time. Maybe it could be done like a class and everyone could send pics to me and ask questions. I would still send out the stones to everyone and if someone wants a second stone I would only charge for shipping.
I think this is something that everyone should try at least once in their lifetime and I would not be surprised if there was some hidden talent out there.
TByrd. That's the spirit. lol
Again, feed back is needed. The one thing that I do not want to do at this point is turn it into a competition. Just a fun learning experience. Jim

Actually, I DID carve an opal... so I can't say I haven't carved softer stone... I just don't think of opals as softer. And with a dremel, not have a clue what I was doing, that took forever! LOL!

Sounds like a neat idea to me, being new to carving and all...
