Has anyone heard from John, the owner of Highland Park lapidary (also Rare Earth Trading Company) within the past month or so? I've tried calling and emailing and have had no response from either. Even if he's in China I would think the email should get to him. If anyone knows how to reach him please let me know.

I just heard from John yesterday. I sent him a message through the HP lapidary website.

It's that time of year. Rock shows are in full swing. He may be on the road, making the shows to display and demonstrate his new equipment.

I just heard from John yesterday. I sent him a message through the HP lapidary website. Hmmm, interesting as I also tried that to no avail. I guess I'll try one more time. Received an email from Eden Grace of HP this afternoon. She says that John is still in China and that the new saws (or at least mine) will be ready in 6-8 weeks. Since I'll be gone until mid-Sep, they will hold the delivery until then. I haven't even left for the summer yet and I'm already eager to come back home!

I bought one of the first 24" saws from Highland Park Lapidary and they have been wonderful to work with. They went out of there way to get me the replacement parts to fix the problems that I was having with my saw. My saw is now working flawlessly, and would not hesitate to buy another saw from them.

My bad as I should've put an end to any speculation. I received an email from HP about two weeks ago telling me that my say would be ready soon. Since I was within a couple days of leaving for leaving for the summer we made arrangements for me to get it when I return. John lives close to me and he will store it at his place in the meantime.
Sorry for not adding this closure to any conjecture. As the above poster mentioned, I've never heard anything bad about the HP equipment, always positive. If only he didn't have to build them in China!

I know John from the shows we do (or did) in Texas. Every time I hear something about him being not reachable it is when he is in China. He probably needs to have someone at home handle his e-mail when he is out of country. In this age of instant access you can't be out of touch with panicky customers wanting to either place orders or find out where their order is.

When I see him or get an email from him, I'll ask about receiving emails in China. I know they filter emails but I can't see something such as this being excluded. I'm more curious than anything else. It could certainly be a deterrent to doing business in the US.
