Last couple months we've been pre-occupied with a family illness and haven't had time for any lapidary work. We were ready for a rock houndin trip to help cleanse the mind. Left home at 3:30am yesterday and headed back out to our favorite rock hounding site next to Last Chance Canyon near Mojave, CA. Me & Goober hiked 3/4's the way up a mountain to our secret spot and gathered up enough jasp-agate rocks to fill up a 5 gallon bucket. Huh, someone else was there since we last visited this remote site.
Wasn't fun keeping track of Goober while watching out for rattle snakes. Had one hell of a time walking back to the Jeep. When I got home I weighed the bucket, 70 pounds! Try doing that sometime with one hand while climbing over rocks & bushes, up and down gullies and dry stream beds! Wore some cargo pants which I normally wear while rock hounding so I can have a place to keep my GPS, camera and other goodies. Ended up destroying my digital camera's lens because the bucket was slamming into my leg, or visa versa. So no pictures of the trip but when I got back to the Jeep, I was able to pry open the lens iris cover and get a few shots of Diane playing around at Red Rock Canyon. This is about 10 miles from where we collect rocks but never stopped by. This whole area has hard ash flows like this. Many TV movies, commercials are filmed here. Can you imagine what it was like when these volcano's were erupting? Makes Mt St Helens look like a fart in a wind storm!
