Hey All, I have been thinking about how to best setup my workshop when I finish grad school and I had an idea. I am in grad school to become a pastor and once I graduate I can get placed anywhere in Northern Illinois and can get moved around every few years. The idea of having to put together and disassemble my workshop every few years is not very appealing. So I was cruising around Craigslist and found this: chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/for/2961309869.htmlIt got me thinking that why couldn't I do something similar except with my lapidary equipment and rocks? I could run electrical as needed, mount equipment to it, and still be able to use it when it's colder out. When it would be time to move to a new appointment, I could just hitch it up, secure everything, and away we go! I also wouldn't need to worry about taking up space in our home or garage. I would have to convince my wife about leaving it in our driveway (and make sure it is okay with city rules, etc), but I think it would work. I just wanted to see what other people thought and/or find out if anyone else has done anything similar. So what do you all think? Michael

May need to take off wheels and hitch when it's in the spot until you get ready to move. People steal things like that a lot around here. Make a great work shop.

THAT is a great idea!! Congrats on your grad school. My hubby went to Grand Canyon University and got a degree in Theology. Also is an ordained minister although he does not preach at the time.

steveo - very god point, I would hate to have all of my stuff just roll away into someone else's hands...but a simple and easier solution! talkingstones - thanks! Rock Hobbit - thanks! i am on the ordination track and if all goes well will graduate in 2014 and then begin working in a local church...hopefully still with some time to enjoy my hobby!

A friend just got back from a long vacation in his rolling rock shop. Probably more than you or I could afford, but he has a 36' travel trailer with a toy hauler compartment in the back. He built fold down benches in the compartment, and storage compartments for his equipment and rocks. With everything stored, he still has room to haul his ATV.

Imagine that.
Travel around, park the RV, get out the ATV collect a bunch of stones, make cabs, slabs. spheres or whatever, sell them if that is what you do then move to next location and do it again!
Go north in the summer and south in the winter following reasonable weather.
Awesome!
