Dino Dung. Much of it resembles a lump of poop from the outside, except for the color. It's usually found in areas where dino bones have been found. I've had fun with this one. The unsuspecting ladies love to look at it and touch it. Then I tell them what it is. lol

ROTF...funny Chuck. so does it look like poo visually but the inside has various colors. because in north dakota they find dino bones.. mostly in the badlands but have found them elsewhere. I am just trying to get an idea of what it looks like so if I come across some I can pick it up and not pass it by because of the looks...Thank you

I did do that.. maybe I need to just read more about it and look at more pics. because it just looks like agate to me with red, yellow green moss. ect. I have a lot of rocks with all that in it and was wondering if some could be coprolite. without the knowlege it could be and I am calling it agate with moss or something.

Most of it will be agate with moss. Coprolites aren't that common. If you search some of the sites, and study the pics, you'll get a better idea of what to look for.

I do have a small peice about the size of a small dogs poo. think it's turtle or something. but the stuff that is shown or sold is like agate. I did just finish reading a great article on it but still didn't help with the ID of it. I know some accually looks like poo but it is rock or a softer yellow stone., which is what I have. I was hoping to maybe try and find the better stuff for tumbling or cabbing.

Didn't get the big one, but did get a highly agatized 4.1 lb hunk. Should be here by Saturday. I'll post a pic before I slice it up.

Joking aside, the researchers that study coprolites, dissolve the silica away so they can identify what the dino eat. One known as Doctor coprolite says after removing the silica the odor returns. Off hand this sounds a wee bit farfetched, but if you have ever cut fossilized shells you know the tide flat at low tide in the summer smell pervades your shop. Working some dino bone smell pretty bad too.
If you are in an area known for coprolite you will usually find if clustered. I know of a hill in Utah, that is nearly all coprolite...like a huge fossilized feed lot, and if you have ever been around herbivores, you will recognize the coprolite quickly. Flesh eating dino poop looks like enormous turds. Also, in Utah, I found one of these nearly sixteen inches in diameter. Too heavy to move any piece of it, and there were bone fragments showing. Also too damned far away form a road to get Big Red closer. Woody

The stuff I have looks just like a clump of big pellets on top, agate on the bottom. It's not as colorful as a lot I've seen, but I mainly got it as a specimen (so to speak).
