Last year the wife and I had the opportunity to collect at the Monarch and Purple Passion mines. Looking though the pictures my wife took you would think we went to the botanical gardens. Not to knock her photoraphy at all, but, there were scant few photos of the rocks. I was able to grab these of the inside of the Purple Passion mine. In person, it was breathtaking. If you ever get the chance to go, do it. A hearty thanks goes out to Bill Gardner ( www.fluorescents.com) for a great day and an amazing amount of information. I learned quite a bit that day. That is cool looking, makes you wonder who took a black light into the mine in the first place.

So is he a partner with the Shields at the Boerne Rock Shop? I think they own the Purple Passion claim or part of it. I picked up some of their little flash light type UV lamps last year and he sent me an invoice later. My didn't believe me that I bought inventory from any company called Purple Passion. Especially batteries included.

I went there several years ago and brought home lots of flourescent rocks. One weighs about 60 pounds and just fluoresces all over. Does Bill still take people up to that mountain where you can collect amethyst crystals? Thing is, it's about a five mile one way hike up to the top.

I've been to both the Purple Passion and Monarch mines but it's been several years and I didn't get to go inside. When I was there it looked more like an abandoned mine rather than an open one. I got to go with a couple who knew Bill but have since lost track of them. The specimens I did get were definitely fluorescent. It is amazing how many different colors they exhibit. Glad you got to go in there.

johnjsgems: Yeah I am pretty sure that is him. We bought a great little UV lamp from him as well.
Condor: I am pretty sure one of the local AZ clubs just had a trip there this past April. April is also when we went. Just in time for rattlesnake season. Keeps you on your toes for sure.
