Wow, I had the craziest week of my life. Today is my first headache free day in 6 days! WHOOHOO!
Sunday, April 29th, I woke up and felt great. An hour or so after I woke up I came down with a headache that put me back in bed with the lights off. I have never experienced pain like this before. It started on the front of my head and behind my eyes. I originally thought it was sinuses but after two days it clustered behind my left eye. After 4 days I went to the hospital. They gave me a CT scan and drew blood. No tumors and no evidence of a beginning aneurysm. The doctor said that he was concerned because of my age and no prior history of migraines and that I should concede to a spinal tap. He thought that maybe a very small blood vessel broke that wasn't detected on the CT scan. My husband thought we should try antibiotics first and wait a couple of days. Well..... the next morning, my headache hit again and the ER doc called to check up on me. He said he had pondered my symptoms and he really thought I should come back in for the spinal tap and a 2nd round of blood work. Patrick was at work and my son had my car so I called my mom who lives a mile away, and she picked me up and took me back to the hospital. I was really stupid and didn't take any Ibuprofen before I went. Oh my gosh.... live and learn a lesson I tell you! The headache peaked after I got to the hospital and two shots of morphine didn't even make it get to the point where I could open my left eye. I've never dealt with pain like this before except for childbirth. I thought my head was exploding..... literally.
The spinal tap was extremely scary. I am afraid of needles and not only was this a super long needle but I had to bend over a table and hunch my back out like a Halloween kitty and arch towards the needle that I was scared of. I was told not to move a millimeter and don't cough.... also had to sign release papers that would free the doctor from any lawsuits if this paralyzed me. Freaked out is the nicest and least crazy way I could describe what I was feeling at the time. I did it though....
My results came back with no blood in my spinal fluid. That means no broken blood vessels and no life threatening conditions!!!!!
The doctor told me to change up my routine and as soon as I wake up, drink two full glasses of water, take 600mg of Ibuprofen, 1 amoxicillin and force myself to eat something. I never eat breakfast but I forced myself to eat 1/2 a piece of cold pizza this morning (yuck, it tasted like cardboard but at this point..... I would do anything)
It worked!!! I didn't get a headache on day number 6!
The ER doc called again today and said that they are still testing my blood and spinal fluid. He said that one of the 4 vials of spinal fluid came back positive for bacteria. He told me not to freak out though and he was 90% positive that it was contaminated due to a glove or something because the other 3 vials were clean. He said that unless I come down with a fever in the next few days, disregard it.
The good news (or bad hehehe......) is that you guys can't get rid of me!!!!!!!! Everything from tumor, aneurysm to meningitis has been thoroughly tested and ruled out! I need to see a neurologist now to find out a diagnosis.
Wish me luck!
