We just returned from a trip to South Texas. Wow, what and abundance of wildlife down there! Picked up some wood while I was there as well. Pics to come later. The Green Jays would not co-operate with me. This the best I got out of about 20 shots. For reference only. Kiskadee Flycatcher Turkey Vulture sunning Boat Tailed Grackle White Winged Dove Butterflies everywhere Deer everywhere This critter kept stealing my bread crumbs I put out for the birds. ID anyone? About rat size but it doesn't really look like a rat. This is just a few of hundreds of pics I took. It was a wildlife paradise. Curt

Great pics Curt. Haven't seen the green jay or the kiskadee yet. Sher and I tried to go into the campground but the day we were there it was closed for some kind of work. Did you see any gators? Heard they have them there. The rodent looks like a hispid cotton rat. Had a tiny rat terrier once who loved to hunt those at a relatives place in Oklahoma and man they'd chew him up when he caught one....Mel

Great photos Curt. That green jay looks very colorful, shame they wouldn't cooperate with you.

Super photos, Curt! Aside from the vulture and the deer, I don't think I have ever seen any of those critters. That green Jay is way cool.

Wonderful photos. Especially the first picture of the Green Jay. They have so much character. Sorry you missed the gators. If you ever come out to my neck of the woods, we have probably around a dozen alligators that have moved into the pond near my house. Alligators have been an abundant species in southeast Louisiana since Katrina.

Eek! I'm too shy to be on TV! I wonder how long they will allow the gators to remain in the pond. At this size they are pretty harmless.

This critter kept stealing my bread crumbs I put out for the birds. ID anyone? About rat size but it doesn't really look like a rat. First of all, great pictures, all of them! Love the Jay and the Grackle. Crow family is the bomb. I am going to guess that the image above is a brushy tailed woodrat or similar. (Neotoma sp) www.neotomadb.org/

I thought Neotoma at first too but the ears are way too small for any of the Neotoma species and the ears, range and habitat are really right for the hispid cotton rat.....Mel
