I have not yet found the proper table for my table top stone mosaic project but I do keep stumbling across tables. On Sunday the neighbors donated this one. To me, it is more of a small desk than a table, so I did not want to make it have a bumpy stone mosaic table top because you would want to be able to open mail and scribble notes on this surface. I made a different project. What do you think? The top was a very badly scratched veneer that someone had played tic tac toe on. Yet the veneer was too light to be replaced with stone. Then I got the idea of making the decoupage top from some old maps from 1886. I first tore up the maps to make a papier mache collage. One day I will actually do a stone mosaic table top to match my stone mosaic wine rack but at least you know I am not just sitting around eating chocolates and drinking champagne. :-) I have a second end table in progress...

I think the desk is cute, the maps interesting, and the picture of you eating chocolates and drinking champagne makes me smile!

What a great table!!! What if you made a whole bunch of intarsias, then rented a granite floor finisher type of sander to grind it down level and polish?? That might take a while, but wow...

I'm not doing intarsia. Frankly, it's too fiddly for me right now. I need to book some easy wins. I'm doing mosaic tile with grout...Here is the wine rack. Hubby used a router to gouge out the table top, and away I went. Similar process on this box: I'm interested in found objects and re-purposed objects, but it can be surprisingly difficult to find something that works with stone mosaic. Here's the candle holder I made in glass but I ultimately determined I didn't have enough stone pieces of the right size and shape to make a similar piece in stone:

Oh, and here's the birdbath. The male Cardinal has been using it every day but today we had a good soaking rain and he was able to shower on the telephone wire, so I guess he'll skip it today. He loves it though.
