I have yet to receive any box bigger than a SFRB that isn't beat to sh*t from USPS.... there are too many people there too lazy to carry a box that weighs more than 3 pounds!!!!
I usually add cardboard to the sides and bottom to help keep what's in the box, in the box and I advise anyone who gets the box to add more tape along the bottom and top edges to help keep the box from falling apart when the apes get it for delivery/bowling practice!!
I should have material on the mail on monday for you scott to add to the box!!

I keep a small supply of FRB boxes here. When I get the box, I always repack it in a new box with extra cardboard packing.

I have, in my carport, 3 packs each of small. med, & large FRB's that I got from USPS and 6 rolls of tape in my office, at one time I was sending/receiving boxes of material from trades on a daily basis!! Now, not so much but I am working an getting back into the trading/selling thing again... it's fun and a little extra $$ is always helpful too!!

I think I will sand bag the contents. This will keep the contents intact in the likely event of a dead outer box. That bag will last as long as the traveling rock box.

What size is the box? Sounds like fun. Thanks. In California.
I'd delete the repeat posting if I knew how....

It starts out as a medium FRB. A couple times in the past when it got to me, I've had to upgrade to a large FRB.

The box was a large when it got to me but not full it had two big holes in it one large enough to reach into i am sure rocks are missing. I will send at least 2 other boxes to scott plus with what everyone else is sending him he may make out like a fat rat on this. Most are not top grade rocks but should be something that not many have on here unless you are from the north carolina, tennessee area. I also would like to get some of my other self collected rocks if i can find them. They would be flint ridge flint Texas llanite along with some GA.crazy lace and savannah river cherty agate lol. If you need boxes from USPS, just go to their website, USPS.com, and order what you need and they will deliver it at no cost to your door!! That's how I get mine.. takes about a week to 10 days depending on what you order and what the local supplies are. plus if I need one or two in a rush, I get them right at the local USPS. I have plenty and now that I am starting to sell/trade slabs again I will be using them faster!!!

I have found that if you take the beat up box that you receive and stuff it inside a new box the double strength is tough as a bowling ball. If you stand the slabs vertical you get less breakage also. Jim

I always stand my slabs on edge and usually put large bubble wrap inside the box covering the bottom and the 2 sides the slabs are against to help cushion them. it also acts as a barrier incase the box rips open so that hopefully, nothing falls out!

Mario I once shipped 52# of silver dimes in an MFRB. 70# max! I used to brand new boxes nested together. Then three straps of tape in each of the three axis. Perfection.

I think that no matter what you do, the trained gorillas at the USPS will find a way to bust it open. It's almost like an unspoken challenge. I don't think they much like us folks shippin' rocks around in FRBs!
I also have an image of baggage handlers with people's luggage, that goes along with the American Tourister commercial.

One thing I've found that helps. When I make up a new box to send, I glue the bottom flaps. I do it with every box I send out now, and haven't heard of a box falling apart yet.

I just use cheap old school glue. Another thing I do. When I get small FRB's in the mail, I turn them inside out and glue the 4 little tabs. Makes great storage boxes for small batches of slabs. I just tape a label on them and put a rubber band around them. Can stack an awful lot of boxes in a small space.

It shouldn't be necessary to up size to a large box. You take some out and put some in. Really simple and it stays light enough for people with a bad back to pick it up. I am sure that it does not make any difference to anyone on here but if it goes to a large box I would prefer to be passed up. Thank you. Jim

The only reason for these boxes to get to a LFRB is that people tend to put in more than they take out!! If people remember to take out and add comparable amounts back the box should not grow any bigger than it starts!! I'm b4 you on the list Jim... so if it gets too big by the time I get it I'll thin it out for ya !! I got ya covered bro !! and can always use extra material too!!
